The Northern Rockies Servicing Human Resources Office (NR SHRO) is currently seeking applicants to fill Student Trainee (Laborer) positions at Grand Teton National Park. This is a Career Intern appointment within the Excepted service. Employee may work a full-time or a part-time work schedule during the summer and may be placed in non-pay status while attending school.
The purpose of the Pathways Internship Program is to provide interns with exposure to public service, enhance educational experience, and support educational goals. The program is formally structured to give interns the opportunity to work in positions related to their academic or career goals.
Under the Pathways Internship Program, interns may be converted to a permanent or term appointment without further competition upon completion of the program requirements. The conversion is not guaranteed and is based on the needs of the agency.

These are subject-to-furlough positions. These positions do not provide employment on a year-round basis. Employees will work a minimum of 26 weeks but generally not more than 48 weeks per service year. Actual work schedule and periods of furlough or non-pay time is contingent upon funding and operational needs.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication. You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree seeking student Will wear the National Park Service uniform. Must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and course load must be at least half time Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with the Selective Service.
Selected applicants will work within the Division of Facility Management within Grand Teton National Park in Colter Bay and Moose, WY. Duties of the position include the following: digging ditches and trenches; breaking up pavement, soil, or concrete; mixing and pouring concrete, asphalt, and hot mix; road patching; cleaning restrooms and pit toilets; working on trails (sometimes in steep terrain); picking up trash and emptying garbage cans; mowing grass and cutting weeds; painting; basic carpentry; and other duties requiring similar judgment and comparable physical effort. During the winter months the incumbent will perform snow removal operations using shovels, scoops, and snow blowers, including snow removal from roofs requiring the use of fall protection equipment. Overtime, holiday, weekend, and shift-work may be required.
Physical Demands
The work performed requires the exertion of moderate to very heavy physical effort. The work involves lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80-100 pounds with assistance.
Working Conditions
Work may be performed indoors and/or outdoors. Outdoor work may be performed in adverse weather conditions such as snow, rain, hail, and strong winds. Work may also expose incumbent to traffic hazards; exposure to chemical and mechanical hazards; and noisy, dusty conditions.
What are the eligibility requirements?
In order to be eligible for an appointment under the Pathways Internship Program:
You must be a student accepted for enrollment in a degree or certificate program on a full- or half-time basis as defined by the institution (certificate program means post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level technical, trade, vocational or business school curriculum); and
Enrollment is with a qualifying educational institution such as high school or state-approved home school; accredited technical or vocational school; a 2 or 4 year college or university; a graduate or professional school (i.e., law or medical school); or a post-secondary home school curriculum; and
You must be in good academic standing according to your institution, with a G.P.A. of at least 2.0 or higher.
You must continue to meet these eligibility requirements throughout the duration of your Pathways Internship Program appointment.
Verification of Enrollment : Your application must include transcripts and a letter from your educational institution that confirms the following: the degree/diploma program in which you are enrolled; that you are enrolled at least on a half-time basis; and your anticipated graduation date. If your transcripts address everything requested in the letter from your institution, that will suffice. If you have been accepted for enrollment but have not yet taken any courses, a copy of your acceptance letter must be provided.
Transcripts do not need to be official but if you are selected for this position you will then need to provide official transcripts before your enter on duty.

3. National Park Service (NPS) uniformed position. Employee will be required to wear a uniform and comply with NPS uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided to defray the cost of the uniform.
4. Applicants must possess a valid state driver''s license. This position requires that you operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. A valid State driver''s license is required. As a condition of employment, you will be required to submit a completed GSA Form 3607, Motor Vehicle Operator''s License and Driving Record. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway preserves a spectacular landscape rich with majestic mountains, pristine lakes, and extraordinary wildlife. The abrupt vertical rise of the jagged Teton Range contrasts with the sage-covered valley, creating world-renowned scenery that attracts visitors from all over the world.
Jackson (12 miles from Moose, 45 miles from Colter Bay) is a small, outdoor recreation focused, thriving community of 10,000 year round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital and medical community, a well respected public school system, private schools, multiple grocery stores, excellent restaurants, and seasonal music and art festivals. Outdoor activities are available year round and include easy access to three ski resorts (Snow King Resort, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and Grand Targhee), back-country and Nordic skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, rafting, kayaking, hunting, cycling, mountain biking, and world class fly fishing, climbing, and mountaineering. The climate can be as extreme as the activities that are available. Winter temperatures range between lows of 20 degrees below zero to highs of 30 degrees. Summer temperatures are comfortable, with highs between 65 - 80 degrees.
A daycare center is located in Moose and an elementary school is located in Kelly (14 miles from Moose) and Moran (11 miles from Colter Bay). Children attend Junior and Senior High Schools in Jackson with bus service provided.
